Heavy Sweater is a rock band from Toronto. Started in 2020, the group blends power pop, indie and emo into an energetic and always-catchy sound. After four years of tireless recording and performing as part of Ontario’s DIY punk rock scene, the band enlisted METZ frontman Alex Edkins to produce their upcoming debut album “SO SAD !”.
On it, they forego genre conventions and trends alike to form a record that is as poppy as it is unhinged, combining radio-friendly singalong choruses with heavy distortion and pummeling drums. Over 30 minutes and 10 tracks, Heavy Sweater connects elements of 90s grunge, 00s alt-rock and various waves of emo into an album that borrows from the past to create a sound that mirrors the present day, in all its turmoil, anxiety, excess and intensity.
